Physical Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease
Dr. Chuck is a PWR! Certified Therapist who specializes in treating individuals with Parkinson’s disease through a targeted, evidence-based approach. His treatment addresses the core challenges commonly experienced with Parkinson’s, including:
Balance
Parkinson’s often impairs balance—whether through a backward lean, difficulty standing upright, or a shuffling gait that increases fall risk. Dr. Chuck begins with a detailed evaluation to identify your specific balance deficits. Sessions are then designed to help you “flex your balance muscle,” reduce fall risk, and move more safely and confidently.
Posture
Forward head posture and rounded shoulders are common in Parkinson’s and can lead to pain, breathing issues, and other secondary problems. Dr. Chuck uses targeted movements, postural exercises, and education to improve your alignment and reduce discomfort.
Strength
Weakness often develops in key muscle groups, but it’s highly trainable. Dr. Chuck designs strength programs based on your needs to help improve walking, balance, and overall function.
Flexibility
Rigidity and stiffness are hallmark symptoms of Parkinson’s. Dr. Chuck guides you through flexibility routines and stretches to increase range of motion, reduce stiffness, and improve comfort during movement.
Endurance
Many people with Parkinson’s fall into a cycle of inactivity, leading to worsening endurance. Dr. Chuck tailors cardiovascular exercise plans to your current fitness level and monitors intensity—often using heart rate tracking—to help you rebuild stamina so you can walk farther and stay active longer.
Dopamine-Driven Movement
Each component of therapy is designed not just to improve mobility, but to activate parts of the brain involved in dopamine production and use. Medications like Carbidopa/Levodopa help chemically restore dopamine—but certain types of exercise may also stimulate the dopaminergic system or even trigger exercise-induced dopamine release. Dr. Chuck structures your sessions to optimize this effect, keeping movements challenging, fun, and high-intensity where appropriate.
Including Loved Ones in Your Care
Parkinson’s affects more than just the individual—it can also take a toll on partners, family, and friends. Dr. Chuck encourages involvement of loved ones during sessions when appropriate, offering education and support that can reduce frustration and improve quality of life for everyone involved.
With Mobile Physio, care is personal, progressive, and empowering. Dr. Chuck is here to help you take control of your Parkinson’s—so you can live with more freedom, function, and fulfillment.
